1.5 years from the initial blank canvas purchase, I finally have a finished Christmas stocking for my oldest! This was my very first needlepoint project. I completed the needlepoint portion before I started sewing-so it sat in my closet after I balked at finishing costs for many months.

I had a backlog of sewing projects before I even started sewing again.
I watched a couple YouTube videos to get the general idea of what I should do to sew the stocking. There was a video with shoddy results and an expert video, I aimed for somewhere in between. Instructions for needlepoint finishing are surprisingly sparse on the internet… or at least I don’t know where they are hidden!
I realized at the end that I used the wrong needle for every portion of the project. The canvas is pretty thick material, and the back fabric was a stretchy satin. So there were better options than the universal needle I left on for everything. With some effort, it still came together and I was able to add a soft furry lining that I really enjoy.

I don’t have the most perfect result compared to sending to a finisher, it’s a bit wrinkly on the back, but that helps retain the charm. I know that I most likely wouldn’t have the option to even use these fabrics. I think this should hold up.
Now I need to get cracking on stitching the youngest’s canvas, before she is conscious of not having a stocking for Christmas.. I already missed the boat on having a cute stocking for their first Christmas but they don’t know that!!!
